What is Duplex 2205 Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe?
Duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe (UNS S32205, EN 1.4462) is a high-performance seamless stainless steel pipe with austenite + ferrite dual-phase structure. It is precisely formed by cold drawing/hot rolling without weld defects. It combines the toughness of austenitic steel and the high strength of ferritic steel. It is particularly good at dealing with high chloride ion (Cl⁻), high pressure, and alternating load scenarios. It is widely used in harsh fields such as marine engineering, chemical industry, and energy, and implements international standards such as ASTM A790 and EN 10216-5.

Core differences: Strength: 2205 yield strength 450 MPa (316L only 205 MPa), wall thickness can be reduced by 30% in high pressure scenarios; Corrosion resistance: 2205 is resistant to Cl⁻ up to 10,000ppm (316L is 5,000ppm), especially suitable for high Cl⁻ environments such as seawater and brine.
Can duplex 2205 seamless pipes be welded? Does it need heat treatment?
It can be welded, and ER2209 welding wire is recommended, with heat input Less than or equal to 1.5kJ/mm. No post-weld heat treatment is required, but the interlayer temperature needs to be controlled to <150℃ to avoid imbalance of duplex structure.
